Norfolk residents can now try some of the best Korean fried chicken in the region, according to a former Virginian-Pilot food critic.

CM Chicken, a Korean fried chicken chain with locations in Virginia Beach and Hampton, opened its downtown Norfolk location on Nov. 14 in the former Scotty Quixx spot, manager Danny Park said.

CM Chicken, which is a shortened form of Choong Man Chicken, has branched out from South Korea into several states like Kentucky, New York and Florida. The chicken is double-fried, crispy and juicy and comes in flavors like soy garlic, curry and red hot pepper. Former Pilot food reporter Matthew Korfhage proclaimed it the best Korean fried chicken in the region in a 2020 article.

Beyond fried chicken, Park said the restaurant is branching out into other Korean dishes like beef bulgogi.

The owners opened a second location at 436 Granby St. after running a successful restaurant in Hampton, Park said.

“We just wanted to bring that over to Granby Street,” Park said.
